CAIRO, May 2 (Xinhua) — The Egyptian government sent a special delegation to Libya on Monday to review the recent developments and check the Egyptian citizens’ status.
“Hany Kalaf, former assistant to the foreign minister for Arab affairs, visited Libya as a special convey of Egypt. He is accompanied by the deputy assistant of the foreign minister for Arab Maghreb Union,” spokeswoman for the Egyptian foreign ministry Menha Bakhom said.
The visit aims at reviewing the situation in the Libyan capital Tripoli and the opposition stronghold Benghazi and to keep an eye on the safety of the Egyptians living there, she added.
Kalaf will meet officials of the Libyan foreign ministry in Tripoli and members of the National Transitional Council in Benghazi.
He carries a letter of the Egyptian government that clarifies principles and considerations towards Libya. It also expressed that Egypt is keen to protect innocent citizens, and stop the bloodshed in the neighboring country.
