Spain’s national court has sentenced two Somalia pirates, who took part in the seizure of the Spanish fishing ship Alakrana, to 439 years in prison each.
On October 2009, the group of pirates seized a freighter with 36 crew on board, 16 of whom were Spaniards. Next day after the seizure the Canaria frigate detained two of the pirates when they were sailing in a boat from the ship to the coast of Somalia.
The pirates freed the freighter only 47 days after they had received $4 million ransom.
