The leader of South Sudan Salva Kiir has called for reconciliation with the North. On Saturday, he was sworn in as President of South Sudan at a solemn ceremony in the newly independent country’s capital Juba.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Kiir said that it was important for the South Sudanese to forgive, though they would not forget the sufferings, deaths and injustice their land had seen in the past decades.
He pledged to improve the national economy and the wellbeing of the people. South Sudan is one of Africa’s poorest countries.
