A protest against police over the fatal shooting of a man in north London turned violent on Saturday.

About 200 people gathered near the Tottenham police station to protest the death of a 29-year-old man who had been shot by police.

Some protestors threw petrol bombs, setting patrol cars and a double-decker bus on fire. Police say 8 officers have been wounded, and one of them was taken to hospital.

An independent police commission is investigating the shooting of the man.

In an apparent attempt to calm the situation, the commission said it understands the distress the incident caused to the man’s family and community, and that people need answers about what happened to him.
