Washington has introduced sanctions against Syrian Foreign Minister Waleed Muallem and two other senior officials, the State Department said in a statement on Tuesday.
The two other officials are presidential advisor Buseina ash-Shaaban and Syria’s ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali, both seen by Washington as the “main defenders of the Assad regime.”
Their US assets, if any, will be frozen, the statement said.
