KAMPALA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday arrived in South Africa for a meeting on the latest developments in Libya.
A State House statement issued here said Museveni will be joining South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma, the Republic of Congo’s Denis Sassou Nguesso, Amadou Toumani Toure from Mali and Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz from Mauritania to discuss the recent developments in Libya.
The African Union (AU) named the presidents of South Africa, Mauritania, Congo, Mali and Uganda to form a high-level committee to help resolve the conflict in Libya.
The AU had sought in vain to mediate between Libya’s ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi and the rebels who rejected the continental bloc’s proposals.
AU members were against the NATO’s military intervention in Libya, arguing that African problems should have African solutions.
