Pirates free vessel with Ukrainians

Somali pirates have freed the MV Blida with five Ukrainians on board, the country’s Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko stated on Thursday. The Algeria-flagged vessel was seized in early 2011 in the Arabian Sea off Oman.

Its crew of 27 included sailors from Algeria and the Philippines.

Now the ship is going to a safe port. No details of the rescue operation have been provided.

Somali pirates release crew members of Algerian carrier

ALGIERS, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) — Somali pirates Thursday morning released 25 crew members of Algerian bulk carrier MV Blida, hijacked on the high seas in January, Algerian Foreign Affairs ministry’s spokesperson Amar Belani said in a written statement, reported the Algerian official news agency APS.

The MV Blida, an Algerian-flagged bulk carrier with a crew of 27, including 17 from Algeria, was captured in January 2011 by Somali pirates around 150 miles southeast of Salalah in southern Oman.

 Pirates hijack oil supply boat off Nigeria: media

LAGOS, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) — Pirates hijacked an oil supply boat off the coast of Nigeria on Thursday, media quoted a local oil security source as saying.

The unnamed source said the vessel had been reportedly attacked at Idoho where she was off its course.

Military authorities in Nigeria’s Rivers State told Xinhua that they could not confirm the attack for the time being.
