Syria:Arab League should help settle Syria crisis – Lavrov
Laaska news Dec. 13, 2011
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that the Syria crisis should be settled on the basis of the relevant Arab League proposals, with no ultimatums delivered to Damascus. Moscow respects the right of nations to decide on
their future on their own, with no foreign interference, Lavrov told a news conference following today’s talks with his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci.
Earlier, the Russian Ambassador at the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, pointed out that the western countries are making a mistake by staking on a change of the Syrian regime and preventing the dialogue both inside Syria and Syria’s talks with the Arab League. According to the United Nations, more than 5,000 have died in Syrian riots.
