“Philippine President Benigno Aquino visited the devastated northern city of Cagayan de Oro on Tuesday”

In the Philippines, casualties from the tropical storm that swept through the southern island of Mindanao have reached nearly 1,000.
Tropical Storm Washi made landfall on Mindanao last Friday, triggering floods and mudslides across the island.
Local authorities say 956 people have been killed and 49 others are missing. About 340,000 people have lost their homes.
Philippine President Benigno Aquino visited the devastated northern city of Cagayan de Oro on Tuesday. He has promised aid and restoration of water supply.
But widespread damage to roads and bridges has been hampering relief and restoration efforts by the military.
The Philippine government will also look into ways the county’s meteorological authorities can issue storm warnings. Many people are criticizing authorities for failing to issue earlier warnings.
