Russia to veto Western-backed SC resolution on Syria

Russia will veto any Security Council resolution on Syria which it believes may lead to an escalation of violence in that Middle Eastern country. It also believes that the Security Council debate on Syria must hear from the Arab League observer mission that was sent to Damascus and other Syrian cities. It is also hoping that the situation in Syria will improve, allowing the mission to return and resume its work.
Russian UN Ambassador Vitali Churkin spoke about this Wednesday in a video link from New York.
