Syrian crisis must be resolved through dialogue – Beijing

China fears that outside intervention in Syria may spark a region-wide conflagration. It remains adamant that the Syrian crisis must be resolved peacefully, by way of a meaningful dialogue between the government and the opposition.

The Xinhua news agency circulated a statement on this Sunday after Deputy Foreign Minister Zhai Jun discussed the matter with Syrian officials and opposition figures at meetings with them in Damascus. The statement mentioned evidence of considerable good will on both of the conflicting sides and said the Syrian opposition does not want its country to become a puppet of the West.

Many Western politicians say it is too late to seek a political solution for Syria.
