Egypt – Cairo subway begins using Japan-made coaches
Laaska News Feb. 22, 2012

A new subway line has been opened in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The trains have air-conditioned coaches — a first for the city.
The newly built 4-kilometer section is a part of a planned route that will connect central Cairo with the international airport.
Japanese firms sold 56 coaches to the subway operator.
More than 200 officials and businessmen from Egypt and Japan attended the launch ceremony on Tuesday.
This is Cairo’s 3rd underground train line. The Egyptian government wants to expand the subway system to reduce air pollution and ease traffic congestion in central Cairo.
Japanese makers and trading houses also hope to supply signal and electrical systems for the Egyptian subways.
