The police chopper that crashed Sunday morning killing six people among them Internal Security Minister Prof. George Saitoti and his assistant Joe Orwa Ojode was acquired last December.
Aviation crash experts at the scene of the plane crash termed the tragedy as unfortunate saying the helicopter was the newest in the police service department.
One of the experts who sought anonymity said the ill-fated one engine helicopter registration number 5y CDT Coureuil -A3 350b3e was bought from France through an agent in South Africa last December and has always been well maintained.
The expert who is also a pilot in the service cited bad weather as the most likely cause of the crash within the Kibiku forest which is part of the larger Ngong forest.
The chopper left bodies of the victimsstrewn all over the scene following the impact that broke it into several pieces.
Feeble soot of smoke was still visible from the remains of the police chopper as late as 11.00a.m while experts from the scene of crime combed through the debris to get any leads to the cause of the crash.
Meanwhile, President Kibaki has convened a special Cabinet meeting following the tragedy.
The meeting to be attended by assistant ministers will be held Monday at 10am at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre.
