Egypt’s Ex PM Shafiq escapes to UAE – VOR
Egyptian ex-Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq who lost the second round of the presidential election has left the country for the United Arab Emirates from where he intends to set out on a pilgrimage to Mecca, The Al-Ahram reports.
However, this hasty departure could have been caused by the fact that on Monday the investigation committee started studying reports about corruption deals in which Shafiq’s name is mentioned, the newspaper writes.
It is assumed that the former partner of the deposed President Hosni Mubarak, Air Force General Shafiq could have been involved in corruption deals made between 2002 and 2011 when he was the Egyptian Minister of Commercial Aviation.
