Arab league summit to open in Baghdad on Thursday

The first Arab League Summit in Iraq in for more than 2 decades opens in Baghdad on Thursday.

The summit gives the nation, devastated by two wars, the chance to show it is stable and rebuilding, following the full withdrawal of US forces in December.

UN sources: Annan proposed cease-fire in Syria

The former UN secretary-general made the proposals when he met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on March 10th and 11th in an attempt to end the country’s violent crackdown on anti-government protestors.
