Iran – Nearly 300 die in Iran quake

Local Iranian officials say the death toll from Saturday’s earthquakes will rise to nearly 300 people.
Iranian government officials are shifting from rescue operations to rebuilding in the disaster-affected areas.
The magnitude 6.4 and 6.3 earthquakes hit the northwestern province of East Azerbaijan. 20 villages were devastated in the mountainous area near the focus, with many of the buildings destroyed. Read more…
Iran – At least 180 killed in Iranian quake

The number of those killed by the earthquake on Saturday in northwestern Iran has risen to 180 people with number of injured now exceeding 1,300.

Iran’s Supreme Leader decides whether to close Strait of Hormuz: military official

TEHRAN, July 15 — The chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces said Sunday Iran’s Supreme Leader has the final say on closing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most crucial waterways for shipping crude oil.
Iran’s armed forces have contingency plans for every scenario, but whether to block the Strait of Hormuz will be decided by the Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Major General Hassan Firouzabadi was quoted by Iran’s Press TV as saying. Read more…
