France has elected its new President – Francois Hollande who scored 51.67% defeating the incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy with 48.33%. Leftists took the helm again after a 17-year break. Sarkozy admitted his defeat and decided to quit big politics.

Sarkozy to sue Mediapart Internet portal

French President Nicolas Sarkozy says he will sue the Mediapart Internet portal, which made public a document in March whereby the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi allocated 50 million dollars for Sarkozy’s 2007 presidential election race.

Gaddafi put up 50M euro for Sarkozy’s presidential bid

Deceased Libyan Leader  Col. Muammar Gaddafi had agreed to fund French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s 2007 election campaign – to the tune of 50 million euro.

­The Paris-based investigative website Mediapart published “documentary evidence” that Gaddafi was ready to put forth tens of millions of dollars to see that Sarkozy won the French presidential race.
