Security situation improves in Somalia: Information Minister
Laaska News Dec.17,2010.
Washington.17/12/2010 The security situation in Somalia has improved as government forces, with the help of African Union troops, increase the territory under their control.
That’s what the Somali Minister of Information, Post and Telecommunications, Abdulkareem Jama, told reporters on Friday.
Mr. Jama stressed that the forces of the African Union Mission in Somalia, AMISOM, still play a critical role in bringing stability to his country which is battling Al-Shabaab insurgents.
“The presence of AMISOM is indeed a very important component of the security picture in Somalia, but it is also important to note that there are vast areas of Mogadishu, over 55 per cent of the territory now, which is controlled by, along with the AMISOM forces, the Somali army, the Transitional Federal Government forces, military and police.”
