NATO to assume Command of Libya operation
Laaska News March 25,2011. SOMALI
NATO will assume command of the military operation in Libya this Sunday or Monday next week.
This was declared by Italian Foreign Minister Franko Frattini who is currently on a visit in Tunisia.
NATO could not reach a consensus over taking the responsibility for the command of the coalition forces in Libya for almost a week because France was opposed to the hand-over.
Paris suggested establishing a structure consisting of coalition member-states, the League of Arab States and the African Union.
On Wednesday the NATO Council approved of the alliance’s participation in enforcing the embargo on arms deliveries to Libya.
The operation code-named “Odyssey Dawn” which began on the 19th of March is carried out by the UK, France, the USA, Canada, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Denmark.
