Girl sues school over hijab
Laaska News April 05,2011.
Imane Mahssan, a high school student from the Dutch city of Volendam, filed a lawsuit against her school because of a ban on wearing the hijab, but lost the case in court.
On Monday a court in Haarlem agreed that the Catholic school had the right to establish such a ban within the confines of the school.
In February of last year 15-year-old Imane Mahssan asked the school administration to allow her to wear the hijab in school.
Receiving no answer, the girl began wearing the headscarf at the beginning of the new school year.
The school responded with a ban on the attire.
Then the school girl went to court, demanding that the school lift the ban, grant her an apology and pay her compensation of 500 euros, but she lost the case.
