Lavrov urges Syria to steer clear of Libya scenario

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has urged Syrian opposition leaders to refrain from repeating the Libyan scenario through encouraging foreign intervention.
Lavrov said that all sober-minded groups in Syria, including the leadership, favored dialogue but their efforts were hampered by those eager to attract foreign support.
Meeting with Russian journalists in Astana, Lavrov said that even though many countries of the region had long been ready for political, social and economic reforms, foreign intervention was not an option.
Reforms, he said, had to be pursued through dialogue and national reconciliation.
