A 29-year-old Swedish traveler Annelie Pompe has become the first woman to scale Everest without an oxygen mask. “I must be the happiest woman in the world. I feel infinitely strong, “- said the free-diving champion before her final thrust towards the summit.
Everest is Earth’s highest mountain, standing at an awe-inspiring 8.848 meters. The first men to scale it without relying on bottled oxygen were Italian Reinhold Messner and German Peter Habeler in 1978.
