Libyan insurgents are fighting the troops loyal to Muammar Gaddafi for the town of Bir Ghanem, 80 kilometres southwest of Tripoli.
According to the Al-Jazeera TV Channel, the opposition forces have been trying to advance southwards for the second week running, to capture the city of Garyan, – the last built-up area in the Jebel Al-Garbil region, which is still under Gaddafi troops control.
Meanwhile, unrest has flared up in Garyan. In February, Garyan residents revolted against the Gaddafi regime, but the revolt was crushed.
On Sunday, the Libyan leader’s troops brought a strategically important city Ifran under missile fire.
