Yevgeny Satanovsky, President of the Institute of the Middle East:

Idea that American activity in Libya is only a result of the oil and gas interest of the American corporations is not relevant.

Of course, the stories about the humanitarian operations with only one reason to save the civilians are also irrelevant. The main idea of White House was competition with Sarkozy inside NATO.

If Sarkozy would be the only one European leader who led the operation, it means that in South Mediterranean in the case of success of this operation the status of the United States will be lower than the status of France.

This was the major reason why the United States is in this operation which is out of interest of America because the oil and gas interest was protected by the Gaddafi regime more serious than after him.

Gaddafi say, “I am not a sponsor of terrorism, I give my oil and gas for the foreign companies”, and his agreements with the United States were more than excellent, but in case when war was guaranteed the United States cannot be out of this process, or it means that nothing is led by the United States – it is much more important than the Libyan oil.
