Troops loyal to the overthrown Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi attacked the units of the Interim National Council (INC) in the area of Bani Walid city (160km south-east of Tripoli) on Sunday.

According to an INC force field commander, the rebels surrounding the city were subjected to mass rocket and mortar fire. The action around Bani Walid continued all night.

Earlier it was reported that  the INC troops have captured an airfield and a military base near Syrt, Gaddafi’s native city, where violent fighting continues as well.
