The top executive of the Al-Jazeera TV channel Wadah Khanfar resigned on Tuesday after eight years as the broadcaster’s general director.

His resignation followed the appearance of documents on the scandalously popular WikiLeaks web site, from which it follows that the Al-Jazeera management had closely cooperated with the U.S. military intelligence.

Khanfar has been with Al-Jazeera since its foundation in 1996.
