Wadah Khanfar, director general of the Al-Jazeera network, has resigned after 8 years as General Director. Qatar’s government has replaced him with a member of its royal family Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, an executive at Qatargas and a member of the country’s ruling dynasty.

Wadah Khanfar’s resignation is linked to appearance of confidential documents on the notorious WikiLeaks web site, from which it follows that Al-Jazeera management had closely cooperated with U.S. military intelligence, reports RIA Novosti.
