Palestine’s bid to be considered by special UN committee

The UN Security Council has forwarded Palestine’s membership bid to a specially designed expert committee. The officials will meet on September 30.

Last week the head of Palestine’s Authority Mahmoud Abbas forwarded a statehood and membership bid to the UN Chief Ban Ki-moon. The US plans to veto it while Russia backs the bid.

Palestine can obtain an observer status, take part in various international forums and apply to the International Court of Justice.
