In Libya, the troops of the National Transitional Council are trying to take Sirte by storm.
Sirte is the only city in Libya that’s still under control of Muammar Gaddafi supporters. Several dozen people have been wounded in fighting. Residential quarters have been brought under heavy artillery fire. Sirte defenders are desperately resisting the attackers.
According to earlier reports, NTC troops captured the city of Bani Walid, one of the last bastions of the former Libyan leader, who was toppled with NATO military assistance. The whereabouts of Gaddafi remains unknown.
