Bangkok remains on alert against flooding, as tide levels in Thailand remained at a seasonal high on Sunday.

The spring tide peaked on Saturday, preventing the Chao Phraya River from flowing into the sea.

Some areas along the river were inundated with water from both the river and canals. Soldiers waded through chest-deep water to rescue elderly people stranded in their homes.

At one shopping district, employees were busy pumping out water from shops. A woman working at an optician store says the flooding caused a heavy loss.

Major damage was avoided in the central business district.

After tap-water became cloudy in the central part of Bangkok, authorities decided to restrict the water supply until capacity at the treatment plant returns to normal.
