Peru:Strong quake hit Peru, 88 people injured

A magnitude 6.9 quake hit southern Peru on Friday afternoon local time, injuring 88 people.

The epicenter was in a coastal area roughly 50 kilometers southwest of Ica City, and 300 kilometers southeast of the capital Lima.

Officials say 132 houses were destroyed in the quake.

In 2007, a magnitude 8.0 quake hit the same area, killing more than 500 people.
