The U.N. Security Council on Monday unanimously adopted a Russian-drafted resolution urging Libyan authorities to prevent weapons accumulated in the country under the Gaddafi regime, including man-portable air defense systems, from falling into the hands of armed groups and terrorists.

Russia had previously expressed concern that during the conflict in Libya weapons were being “leaked” out of the country. The resolution calls upon the Libyan authorities and neighboring states to take necessary measures to prevent arms proliferation. UN member-states are also requested to assist in achieving this goal.
