The floodwaters creeping toward central Bangkok have slowed their progress, but more people are being affected as water levels edge up in already flooded districts.

The slow-moving pool of water was approaching a major canal 5 kilometers from the city center on Tuesday

In inundated areas, cars are stranded in thigh-deep water, and people are using boats to move around as floodwaters rise.

About 540 people are taking shelter at a university in central Bangkok. Many of them are staying in small tents to avoid mosquitoes.

Rubber boots, which few people in Thailand wear normally, are selling well in the capital.
