The end of the euro would lead the disintegration of the common European market, Italy’s new Prime Minister Mario Monti said in the Senate (the upper chamber of parliament) Thursday.

He said the current crisis in Europe had been caused by a number of management erros.

Monti said the future of the single European currency depended on Italy.

He stressed that his government’s main goals were to ensure the economic growth and a gradual reduction of foreign debt.

Among the urgent tasks Monti named employment of young people and women as well as tackling tax evasion.
