The Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court Luis Moreno Ocampo, who is currently visiting Tripoli, says that Muammar Gaddafi’s son Saif al-Islam, who is now in the hands of Libya’s new authorities, does not have to be extradited to the Hague Tribunal. He can be tried in Libya as well, the prosecutor said.

However, Mr. Moreno Ocampo does not intend to meet Saif al-Islam Gaddafi personally.

Saif was arrested on Saturday when he was trying to cross the border with Niger.

Libya’s new authorities would rather try him themselves than extradite him for trial by any international court.

There are reports that Muammar Gaddafi wanted Saif to be his successor.
