Independent international monitors have spoken highly of Russia’s Sunday’s election to the State Duma. This came in a statement by a Polish monitor Mateusz Piskowski.

He told a press conference at the international information centre in Moscow in the wake of the voting that critical remarks made were prompted by technical shortcomings, rather than electoral law violations.

The Italian political analyst Giulietto Chiesa and the Czech Republic monitor Anna Chudova also referred to the election as well-organized and meeting high political standards.

A Member of the European Parliament Sato Tabajdi of Hungary said he had not registered major violations, although one voting booth at a polling station lacked curtains, which failed to ensure secret balloting.
