THAILAND:8 killed, 50 injured after bus crashes into gas station in N Thailand

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

BANGKOK, Dec. 7 — A total of eight people were killed and 50 others were injured Wednesday after a bus veered off the highway and slammed into an LPG gas station in north Thailand’s Lampang Province, Thai media reported.

The accident occurred after midnight in Lampang’s Tern District. Rescuers had to cut the severely deformed bus to get the passengers out. The survivors were sent to hospitals, Thai media MCOT reported.

The police said it was fortunate that the bus did not hit the tanks which could have exploded.

The driver, killed in the accident, fell asleep when the accident occurred, local media Chiang Mai Daily quoted the police as saying.
