Iran threatens to close the Strait of Hormuz in the event its oil exports fall under international sanctions. IRNA news agency quoted Vice President Mohamed Reza Rahimi as saying on Tuesday that Tehran was prepared to respond in kind to any hostile actions against it.

The Strait of Hormuz, the main sea route for oil and gas exports from the Gulf, connects the Strait of Oman with the Persian Gulf. Its northern coast is controlled by Iran and the southern coast – by US allies the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
