US:Obama plans defense cuts

The US will downsize the number of troops to make them more agile and flexible, President Obama stated in his Thursday Pentagon speech.

“We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past — after World War II, after Vietnam — when our military was left ill-prepared for the future,” he said

The President outlined a new defense strategy that includes expanding military presence in Asia and the Pacific and added that these plans will not be subject to the planned Pentagon budget cuts  by  $500 billion.
