Libyan government receives $20 bln from Gaddafi’s accounts

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Libya’s central bank has received the first tranche of $20 billion from the accounts of the country’s former leader Muammar Gaddafi, Libya’s Foreign Minister Ashour Bin Khayal said Tuesday.

It became possible after the US and a number of European countries unfroze the accounts of the ousted and murdered Libyan leader.

According to some experts, the total sum of Gaddafi’s accounts frozen as part of the UN Security Council sanctions against his regime amounts to about $150 billion.
