Gunmen Kill tourists in Northern Ethiopia

Killed tourists in Ethiopia come from Europe, Australia

 

ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) — Ethiopia said Wednesday that the foreign tourists attacked by gunmen in northern Ethiopia late Monday were from Europe and Australia.

So far, five tourists have been confirmed killed by the terrorists and they were German, Belgian, Hungarian, Italian and Australian, government spokesman Bereket Simon told the media.

The Ethiopian Television quoted the country’s Ministry of Defense as reporting that the five were among a group of eight foreign nationals. They were attacked near the border of Eritrea.

Two injured tourists were brought to a health clinic with critical condition and another in the group survived the attack unharmed, said the TV report.

It said the attackers had crossed into Ethiopia from neighboring Eritrea.

It was unclear about the nationality of the five killed foreign tourists at the moment.
