Thursday, January 19, 2012

Rescue efforts have resumed on the Costa Concordia luxury cruise liner stranded off the Italian coast. The operation was suspended yesterday after the ship, which lies on its starboard side after hitting a reef within 230 m of the Giglio Island, began shifting.

There were more than 4,200 passengers and crew on board, more than 100 Russian tourists among them, when the accident occurred on Friday night. Eleven people have been confirmed dead and more than 20 others are still missing.
