The EU Foreign Ministers approved an embargo on Iranian oil deliveries during their meeting in Brussels earlier today.
This comes in a report by the France Presse news agency with reference to diplomatic sources. Earlier, the Foreign Ministers agreed on blocking a major part of transactions with Iran’s Central Bank.

All EU countries that are currently buying oil from Iran are due to wrap up their purchases from Tehran by July 1st as part of the new package of sanctions. Greece, Italy and Spain account for 68% of Europe’s oil imports from Iran.

The new sanctions have been slapped to prevent the funding of Iran’s nuclear programme, which, the EU nations believe, is military in character.
