Russia used its right to veto at voting in the UN Security Council in order to prevent attempts of external interference in Syrian affairs. This was stated by President Dmitry Medvedev in telephone conversations with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran.

According to Medvedev, Moscow prevented certain countries from using the draft resolution for implementing the “Libyan scenario.”

The Russian president stressed the importance of promoting intra-Syrian dialogue. The main challenge now – is to prevent civil war that could destabilize the entire region, said Medvedev.
