Elite units of the Syrian army are pursuing armed gangs of rebels in areas south and north of Homs. Life in the city is returning to normal after suffering month-long armed conflicts, explosions and plunder.

An independent Syrian newspaper, The Al-Watan, has reported on its website that dozens of militants are surrendering to special mission units.

Underground tunnels were discovered in one of the districts which served as the militants’ command centre and a storage facility for ammunition and explosives. They were also used as a makeshift hospital and a prison for keeping hostages and captives. 130 bodies with knife wounds and traces of torture were discovered in the mortuary of the ‘hospital’.
