The EU summit has confirmed that in March it will consider a new package of sanctions against Syria.

The EU will intensify pressure on the regime until repression against the opposition and human rights violations are stopped said a joint statement released by European leaders.

The EU has demanded Damascus provide the personnel of humanitarian organizations with easy access to Syria.

The next meeting of the European Council at the level of Foreign Ministers will be held on the 26th of March.

A few days ago the foreign ministers approved the 12th package of sanctions against the regime of Bashar al-Assad which include a ban on Syrian imports into Europe of non-ferrous and precious metals, the freezing of Syrian central bank assets and a ban on cargo flights from Syria to the EU.
