600 militants surrendered to Syrian troops in Homs

Saturday, March 3, 2012

600 local militants and 118 mercenaries from Arab countries have surrendered to the Syrian government troops in the city of Homs in the past few days.

Homs residents are helping the servicemen to track down rebel fighters. Homs has been the stronghold of armed antigovernment groups in Syria for many a month, but the government troops established control over the city a few days ago.

The situation in Homs is gradually getting back to normal.

A humanitarian convoy of the International Red Cross arrived there on Friday to provide medical assistance for the local population and evacuate the injured. But news agencies report that government troops have yet to quash hotbeds of resistance in three residential quarters.
