Amos allowed to enter Syria

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos has received permission of the Syrian government to enter the country, Interfax reports.

Amos is planning to depart for Syria on Wednesday. The aim of her visit is to call all the parties to provide humanitarian missions free access to the country for evacuating the injured and delivering the necessary aid.

Last week Damascus did not grant Amos permission to enter the country. The Syrian government explained their decision by the fact that the planned dates of her visit did not suit them.
