The head of the Mali opposition which has overthrown President Amadou Toure, Captain Amadou Sanogo, says that Mr. Toure and his associates are safe and sound.

At present, Captain Sanogo is de facto the provisional head of the state.

He said that a trial against the former president and other former officials will start soon, and assured that no one would be allowed to do them any harm against the law.

However, Mr. Sanogo didn’t specify either how many former officials have been arrested besides Mr. Toure, or where they are at the moment.

The opposition says that it ousted the former government for its lack of proper resistance to separatists in the country’s north.
