Syria’s future ‘matter for Syrians’ – Annan

Monday, March 26, 2012

International envoy Kofi Annan believes that settling the crisis in Syria supposes contacts with both the Syrian government and the Syrian opposition and cannot involve timetables.

Winding up a two-day visit to Moscow Monday, he also said that the future of Syria’s ruling regime is a matter for the Syrians.

Meeting with Mr Annan Sunday, President Medvedev described his mission as Syria’s last opportunity to avert a civil war.

The United Nations and the Arab League had tasked Mr Annan with bringing about a Syrian ceasefire, creating an international system to monitor Syria and persuading the Syrian government to open international humanitarian access to Syria’s civilians.
